Our Mission
The mission statement for the Rocky Mountain District, LCMS is:
Igniting Church and Culture for Christ!
The five critical targets of the Rocky Mountain District are:
- A Culture of Personal Evangelism
- Healthy Ministries
- New Ministries
- Spiritual Growth
- Theological Unity
Critical Target 1: A Culture of Personal Evangelism
This critical target seeks to inspire and equip the members of the Rocky Mountain District to introduce people to Jesus Christ for an eternal relationship with Him beginning now. Motivated by the Christians’ love for Christ, our members are so filled with the forgiveness, peace and joy that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings that they can’t help but speak the Good News to their family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and schoolmates in their daily lives.
Critical Target 2: Healthier Ministries
The Rocky Mountain District's Target of Healthier Ministries directs our efforts to assist congregations and individuals whose ministries may be impeded by financial, personnel, or organizational conflicts. We broadly identify a ministry as becoming healthier when: it has a clearly defined mission and vision; has workers who are growing in their faith, Christian living, professional skills, and relationships; has workers who are mentally, emotionally, and spiritually strong; and has workers who are joyfully and vigorously engaged in ministry. We also strive to have congregations and God's people dealing with conflict in a God-pleasing way- reconciling themselves as those who pray, "forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Finally, our target is to, by God's grace, have ministries focused on the discipleship of God's people and carrying the Gospel message into the "marketplace" (Acts 17:17ff).
Critical Target 3: New Ministries
This critical target seeks to facilitate the initiation of new ministries, including Word and Sacrament ministries, but also preschools, schools, human care ministries and others that may bring honor to the name of the Triune God through the work of Jesus Christ. These new ministries are centered in the Word of God, faithfully upholding the Lutheran Confessions and seek to encompass all parts of the Rocky Mountain District, explore global opportunities in coordination with LCMS World Missions and reach out to all the people living among us of all ethnic groups, languages and socio-economic backgrounds. By the Grace of God, these new ministries will be able to replicate themselves.
Critical Target 4: Spiritual Growth
Recognizing Scripture’s directive to grow in the knowledge and faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, and praising God the Holy Spirit for His calling us to faith, enlightening us with His gifts, sanctifying us, and keeping us in the true faith, people in our District are growing spiritually. A spiritually growing District means people are growing in the appreciation of the Gospel as the source of all growth, growing in their knowledge of the Word of God through bible study, devotions and ability to defend the faith. In addition, people are active in prayer, faithful in worship attendance, frequent partaking of the Lord’s Supper, living out joyful stewardship of God’s gifts and growing in Holy Living.
Critical Target 5: Theological Unity
This critical target seeks to facilitate theological unity among ministries of the Rocky Mountain District. Theological unity as God’s gift is a reality but it is also something for which the Lord’s church is to strive this side of heaven. Theological unity is facilitated by actively engaging in the identification and study of the pressing theological issues that are affecting the church, making theological issues a priority in the life of the church and that theological issues are engaged with the highest degree of churchmanship, integrity and love.
